John Evans 50K Houston (Jan 9):

Out in Katy (west outskirt of Houston), a few brave folks came out to challenge themselves in the 31-mile race, and we also noticed a handful of folks in the 20K and 5K races. Held in picturesque Bear Creek Park, the event was a good opportunity for our walkers, judges, and volunteer staff to shine. Dave Gwyn put on another super weekend for walkers. Day before the race, Bruce MacDonald (previous trainer of US Olympians) gave a classroom RW clinic and Emmitt Griggs conducted a USATF-officials certification class for the attending Gulf officials. Race day was perfect weather wise, and the very flat, dynamic park course favored good walking in a very serene atmosphere.

50km RW:
1. Arnis Paeglis (TX, M54) 7:02:18
2. Stephen McCullough (CT Racewalkers / CT, M43) 7:05:28

5km RW:
1. Juanita Rogillio (TX, F65) 39:07

20km RW:
1. Bob Cella (TX, M67) 2:17:11
2. Alberto Medina (TX, M44) 2:21:40 - started late, covered 20km in 2:01:29

There were two disqualifications and one walker did not finish the 50K. Judges were Janis Bluhm (chief), Gene Eastman, Emmitt Griggs, Bruce MacDonald, Erin Mulanax, Ginger Mulanax, and Bert Pickell
